September 19, 2013 Ketchum,ID- Mountain Rides Transportation Authority announces the completion of a new bus shelter at East Fork Road and Highway 75. With this shelter, Mountain Rides now has 24 total bus shelters from Hailey to Sun Valley. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place today.
The shelter on the northeast corner of Highway 75 and East Fork Rd. was built with Federal Transportation Administration Stimulus monies and an FTA Bus Livability grant. Wendy Crosby, Business Manager for Mountain Rides states "These funds allowed MRTA to significantly improve the only mid-valley stop in our system and adds to our infrastructure which, research proves, leads to increased ridership”.
MRTA is seeking funding for additional improvements including a pathway linking the East Fork parking lot to the northbound stop, improvements to the south bound bus stop, as well as ADA access ramps at the other corners of the intersection. Mountain Rides Board Member, Steve Wolper stated "This shelter and the improved pullout are an important step in helping link the bus system with other modes of transportation. We are hoping that it will encourage more people to use the bus for events in Sun Valley or Ketchum by parking at East Fork and taking the bus into town.”
"Mountain Rides is excited about these infrastructure additions that will benefit our passengers. Our ridership continues to grow, so adding amenities such as shelters is essential to our continued success,” said Jason Miller, Mountain Rides’ Executive Director. Mountain Rides sought proposals on the design and construction of improvements to the entire East Fork/ Highway 75 intersection but funding was only available for the pullout improvements and shelter at this time. This first portion of the project was awarded to Lloyd Construction of Ketchum with construction of the shelter completed by Bill Green, Kisler Munoz and Teo Leon, employees of Mountain Rides.
